Republic silver Matte Proof Pattern 50 Centavos 1953 PR63 NGC, KM28. "Liberty Cap" design. A rare proof pattern issue featuring the obverse of the regular 1853 50 Centavos issue, but with a reverse exhibiting the same basic design as the regular-issue 1953 25 Centavos. The example boasts an exceptional appearance in this matte format, the features sharp and blessed with delicate streaks of gunmetal tone. Virtually non-existent records attest to the scarcity of all 1953 proof issues, the best comparable we could find being a 4-piece Proof set sold in our 3019 Sale (Lot #24159) for $13,800, all-in, in 2012.
