Charles V (1364-1380) gold Franc à Pied ND MS63 NGC, Fr-284, Dup-360. KAROLVS DI GR | FRAҺCORV RЄX, Charles, holding sword and scepter surmounted by Hand of Justice, standing facing beneath a Gothic dais; lis to left and right / + XPC VIҺCIT XPC RЄGNAT XPC IMPЄRAT, cross fleurée in polylobe, with crowns and lis alternating in angles and lis in arches. A choice example of this especially attractive Medieval design type, immensely well struck giving full depth and definition to Charles's portrait and the dais behind, the same effect observable on the reverse with evident die-polish lines. A light flan crease is noted at 4 o'clock, but this appears to be a mint error as opposed to any damage to the coin and fails to detract from the extraordinary eye-appeal this piece offers. Scarcely encountered finer than this specimen.
