Napoleon I gold 40 Francs L'An XI (1802/03)-A MS62 NGC, Paris mint, KM652. Absolutely stunning, an unbeatable specimen of this already scarce type. Struck during Napoleon's time as Premier Consul, this 40 Franc piece has been cheated of a 'Prooflike' designation, its fields intensely reflective and watery whilst its devices and Napoleon's portrait appear more matte in comparison. Despite minor contact marks in the fields, this specimen has also been seemingly conservatively graded, appearing at least Choice Mint State. A delight to view in-hand and particularly attractive for the type, a prize for the discerning collector of the Napoleonic series.
