Henry VIII (Edward VI) 1/2 Sovereign ND (1547-51) XF Details (Rev. Rim Filed) NGC, Tower mint, 6.14g, S-2392, N-1865. K mm. Posthumous coinage in the name of Henry VIII but bearing the portrait of his son, Edward VI. K beneath reverse shield. The 'rev rim filed' designation should not be factored into the appraisal of this attractive Tudor piece, as its weight is good for the type and the minute spot of filing likely performed in the mint to remove excess gold. Besides areas of weakness somewhat typical for the type, the strike on this piece is sharp and definitive, with some slight doubling on the reverse. A rich goldenrod in color and pleasing in-hand, a splendid representative of this short posthumous issue.
