James I (1603-25) gold Unite ND (1616-17) XF45 PCGS, Tower mint, S-2620, N-2085. Book mm, a scarce mintmark for this type. An appealing example of this hammered Stuart issue, surfaces hinting at original luster beneath light toning. Its legends exhibit only minor areas of weakness as well as flashes of deep red patina in places, and the reverse shield is especially crisp; James's bust exhibits some soft striking on his armour, whilst his portrait is more deeply impressed. An altogether handsome specimen of this popular denomination.
