Great Britain
James I (1603-25) gold Laurel ND (1619-20) AU58 NGC, Tower mint, S-2637, N-2111 (R). Spur rowel mm. An extremely pleasing specimen, fully round with gorgeous surfaces. Out of the many English monarchs who feature on the nation's hammered coinage, James I is one of the most elusive to find a satisfying portrait of; the present offering, however, features an absolutely crystal-clear image of the King's visage, every curl in his beard and leaf on his laureate wreath sharply represented. Fully lustrous, essentially without any loss of detail whatsoever. Only a minor scratch in the obverse field at 4 o'clock prevented this superb specimen from entering Mint State. For the selective collector of British hammered gold.
