Commonwealth gold Unite 1654 AU55 NGC, Tower mint, KM395.1, S-3208, N-2715. An alluring example from this popular short-lived series, notable for the English legends and omitting of a monarch's portrait. 1654 is a far rarer date for this type with none having been graded by PCGS and only two seen by NGC, the present specimen included. Aside from its rarity, this piece also boasts a superb eye appeal, misty original surfaces imbued with bright luster, struck firmly on a good (if somewhat irregular) flan giving sharp details. The largest gold coin issued during the Commonwealth, produced just two years before the introduction of Oliver Cromwell's portrait coinage, and a definitively elite specimen.
