Charles II Crown 1671 XF45 NGC, KM435, S-3357, ESC-42. VICESIMO TERTIO edge. A handsome Crown, rarely seen as nice as this specimen; XF45 is actually the highest grade for this type awarded by either NGC or PCGS. This is largely due to the over-engraved dies of Charles II meaning a perfectly crisp strike was near-impossible. This example has made a valiant effort, however, exhibiting sharp lustrous surfaces and a beautiful brooding argent tone; despite the usual weakness to the highest points of Charles's hair, his portrait is exceptionally attractive and boldly rendered. A truly wondrous coin for the type.
