James II 6 Pence 1688 MS63 NGC, KM456.2, S-3412. Sixpences were a rare denomination during the reigns of Charles II, James II and William and Mary, only becoming common after the Great Recoinage of 1695. Accordingly, high grade specimens such as this delightful 1688 offering are immensely rare and hardly ever seen at auction. This example is particulary attractive aside from its rarity; toned a beautiful gray-gold, and exceptionally well produced. Barely a mark on it and indeed this appears worthy of an even higher certified grade. A superlative specimen.
