James II gold Guinea 1685 AU Details (Reverse Scratched) NGC, KM459.1, S-3400. Above average grade for this type, the first year of the short-lived reign of James II. This Guinea exhibits attractive subdued gold surfaces, much residual luster particularly in the legends, the whole planchet overlaid with a light reddish tone. The two minor scratches on the reverse are short and fairly light. All in all a handsome specimen, an excellent representative of the type.
