George I Crown 1716 XF45 NGC, KM545.1, S-3639, ESC-1540. Roses and plumes in angles on reverse, SECVNDO edge. An unusually fine Crown of George I, a denomination which hardly appears in any condition for this Hanoverian monarch. Yes, it has seen some minor circulation, which has led to very minor rub on the highest points; but unlike many of George I's Crowns, the metal exhibits no pronounced 'flecking' whatsoever, leaving sleek problem-free surfaces toned a handsome gray over muted luster. George's portrait is excellent, a dark tone adding shadow to his depiction giving an wonderful three-dimensional appearance. When the coin is tilted, a steel-blue patina leaps to the viewer's attention from within the legend. In truth, this piece appears conservatively graded, and indeed the visual appeal of this Crown is far stronger than many more highly-certified specimens. A highly desirable offering so well-preserved as this, and a wonderful example of the type.
