George III gold Sovereign 1820 AU55 NGC, KM674, S-3785C. A scarcer date from the final year of George III's reign, this specimen exhibits a high degree of detail for the assigned grade, which appears to be largely a result of the light, scattered marks in the fields (the scratch to the right of the horse on the reverse is on the holder, not the coin). The strike itself is endearing and sharp, thin dark accents around the legends and glitters of luster around the depressed features giving a yet deeper visual pop. Aged to a honey-gold on the reverse with the obverse more lemony in hue, this piece overall proves to be absolutely splendid.
