Victoria Shilling 1854/4 MS64 NGC, S-3904, ESC-1302A (R4). Amongst the rarest of the Victorian Shilling series, the regular date 1854 is only beaten in scarcity by the elusive 1850. However, the 1850 Shilling is given a rarity of R3 in English Silver Coinage, whilst the 1854 with the 4 punched over a mispunched 4 is rarer still, rated R4. This present offering represents the second highest certified example of this variety by NGC, the lofty near-Gem grade extremely unusual for this seldom-seen date let alone for this overdate type. Fully detailed and exhibiting absolutely no wear, the planchet of a brooding gray infused with a vivid gold patina, the eye appeal superb in every regard. An outstanding Victorian rarity, for which there can only be one winning bid!
