Islamic Dynasties
Umayyad. temp. Abd al-Malik (AH 65-86 / AD 685-705) gold Dinar AH 79 (AD 698/9) Gem UNC, No mint (likely Damascus), 4.23g, 19mm, A-125, ICV-156, Bernardi-42. A fully mintstate specimen, perfectly centered on a just-out-of-round flan with glorious golden luster and blemish-free surfaces. The faint die crack running downwards from Allah through the shahada lends yet further credence to its superior level of execution, likely under the close eye of the caliph himself or one of his mint inspectors. The slightest bit of doubling is visible in the obverse margin, but is, to the present cataloger's eyes, the only possible quibble that can be raised, and this being extremely minute.
