Venice. Paolo Rainier Osella 1785-AO Anno VII MS62 NGC, Paolucci II, 268, CNI VIII-171. Displaying a deep tone over fields with obvious underlying luster, the present offering was struck to commemorate the Doge's punishment of the embezzlement of the Arsenale di Venezia, the arsenal of Venice. Although seemingly an odd event to celebrate, it is less surprising when one considers the Venetian Republic's historical zeal for maintaining order and integrity in its political affairs. An altogether satisfying example with a boldly defined obverse design.
