Mexico
Charles III 8 Escudos 1784/3 Mo-FM/F AU53 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM156.2. A highly intriguing piece, owing largely to the combination of both an overdate and an overstruck assayer's initials, the current offering, despite a clear weakness in the centers, retains a noteworthy degree of sharpness and watery mint luster to the fields. A clear set of adjustment marks over both the bust and the Spanish shield appear the clear cause of the weakness while a reddish tinge has begun to develop around the peripherals, assuring that this pleasant coin is not lacking in eye-appeal, all the more so considering the rarity of the Mo-FF combination.
