Republic gold 8 Escudos 1857 Go-PF AU55 NGC, Guanajuato mint, KM383.7. A peculiarly beautiful example for its seemingly low numerical grade, the current offering retains a surprising amount of detail towards the centers--particularly on the open law book, which is almost universally worn or weak on these issues--despite a noticeably weak strike on the eagle on the opposing side. Moreover, while there can be little doubt that ample signs of handling bound the given grade, a ring of mirrored luster hugs the outer edges, managing to caress the central devices in a watery finish.
