Republic gold "Chamizal Settlement" Medal 1967 UNC, 75mm. 247.83gm. Struck in 10ct gold. A huge gold commemorative, struck to mark the formal transfer of lands between Mexico and the United States. In 1864, torrential rains in Texas caused flooding of the Rio Grande river and a subsequent change in the river's southward course. Once the flooding cleared, Texas had gained 700 acres of land! This medal commemorates the returning of this land to Mexico in October 1967. Produced in matte format giving a butterscotch tone to the gold, these medals were only issued to those involved in the Chamizal Settlement project and are accordingly extremely rare. AGW 3.32 oz Accompanied by its original fitted red leather case.
