Nicholas I Specimen Pattern Novodel 2 Kopecks 1840-CПБ SP63 Red and Brown PCGS, St. Patersburg mint, KM-Pn105, Bit-H932 (R2), Brekke-165 (Rare). Brekke does not list a Novodel issue for this type. Obv. Crowned monogram. Rev. Date and value, with small C.П.Б. below. A near-flawless strike, with reflective fields. Both sides exhibit considerable mint-red luster with minor marks. Very scarce. We have studied the three 1840 copper patterns at length, and we find it virtually impossible to see why these have been designated Novodels by PCGS. They have none of the characteristics one normally see with the restrike pieces.
