Greenock. 4 Shillings 6 Pence ND VF Details (Graffiti) NGC, KM-CC59. Counterstamped in the 1820s on an 1815 Peruvian 8 Reales of Ferdinand VII. Produced by James and Andrew Muir, haberdashers and straw hat manufacturers. A very rare and collectable type, handsomely toned an argent-gray; the counterstamp has been applied diagonally, giving very strong detail to around four fifths of the design, but fading suddenly within the last fifth. The graffiti is light, and does not take away from the collectability nor charm of this lovely countermarked type.
