Charles II gold Cob 4 Escudos 1689-M MS61 NGC, Seville mint, KM58.2, Cayon-7915. A lustrous example of this scarce issue, unfortunately struck from rather wretched, late-state dies without a clear mintmark or assayer. Fortunately, however, the last three digits of the grade are legible and only Seville struck 4 Escudos with this date in this style. The last digit, although unclear, is likely an overdate, either 9/8 or 8/7. The single specimen certified by NGC, an essential addition to a dedicated collection of Spanish Cobs.
