Republic 5 Centesimos 1854/40 MS62 Brown NGC, KM1. Struck from the same dies as the previous lot--with the same break to the lower right of the sunface and the same die cud at 3 o'clock on the reverse--this example appears to have been struck on a somewhat more refined flan with a gorgeous coppery-red tone accentuating the finer points of the design. Though some weakness towards the the bottom of the obverse may indeed indicate a later striking, the remainder of the devices retain a considerable degree of sharpness, which intensifies particularly in the lower portions of the wreath. A rare opportunity to obtain a gorgeous pairing of parallel issues produced at different stages in the life of the same early die.
