IONIA. Smryna. Ca. late 3rd century BC. AR tetradrachm (31mm, 16.94 gm, 1h). NGC XF 5/5 - 4/5 Fine Style. Posthumous issue in the name and type of Alexander III the Great of Macedon, ca. 220-200 BC. Head of Heracles right, wearing lion-skin headdress, paws tied before neck / AΛEΞANΔPOY, Zeus enthroned left, right leg drawn back, feet on ground line, eagle in right hand, scepter in left; head of Tyche left above monogram in left field. Price 2253 type (different monogram). An apparently unpublished variety. See Gorny & Mosch auction 107 lot 124 (February 2001) for another example. A Very Rare type to start with, plus the unpublished monogram!
