SELEUCID KINGDOM. Antiochus III the Great (222-187 BC). AR tetradrachm (28mm, 16.66 gm, 12h). NGC Choice XF 4/5 - 4/5. Uncertain Mint 57, Phrygia, perhaps Synnada. after 203 BC. Diademed head of Antiochus III right with attributes of a caricature with assertive nose, high forehead, receding hairline tousled at top, horn above ear; bead-and-reel border / BAΣIΛEΩΣ / ANTI-OXOY, leggy Apollo seated left on omphalus, testing arrow in right hand, left hand on grounded bow right behind with grip marked by three pellets. SC 1006. Rare. The holder makes note that this could be a contemporary imitative but the plate coin in SC bears out that this is an official issue.
