PTOLEMAIC EGYPT. Ptolemy VI Philomator (222-205/4 BC). AR didrachm (24mm, 6.77 gm, 1h). NGC AU 5/5 - 3/5. Cyprus mint or Pelusium?, dated Year 105 of uncertain era (158/7 BC?). Diademed head of Ptolemy I right, wearing aegis around neck / ΠTOΛEMAIOY-BAΣIΛEΩΣ, eagle standing left on thunderbolt inscribed PE (date). Svoronos 1212 (Ptolemy IV Philopator). SNG Copenhagen 552 (same).
From the Collection of a Philhellene. Ex Gorny, Auction 90 (October 1998), lot 543, with tag.
Note - Svoronos and SNG Copenhagen list this coin under Ptolemy IV, dated year 105 of the era of Ptolemy Soter (206 BC), minted in Aradus, however, the most recent discussion is from C. Lorber, "The Ptolemaic era coinage revisited," NC (2007), pp. 105-117 and the current scholarship has shifted these issues to Ptolemy VI and to an uncertain mint in Cyprus.
