Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus (AD 913-959), with Romanus II. AV solidus (21mm, 4.39 gm, 7h). NGC AU 5/5 - 3/5, light scuff. Constantinople, ca. AD 945-959. Facing bust of Christ Pantocrator, with cruciform nimbus, three pellets in each limb, holding book of Gospels in left arm and raising right hand in benediction / crowned busts facing of Constantine, on left, bearded and wearing loros, and Romanus, beardless and wearing chlamys, holding patriarchal cross on globe between them. Sear 1751. DOC 15. A pleasing specimen with an iconic Christ image.
