Napoleon bronze "Entry of the French Army into Madrid" Medal 1808 UNC - scratched, surface hairlines, 27.88g, 42mm, Bramsen-757, Zeitz-97. Obverse by Bertrand Andrieu, reverse by Nicolas Guy Antoine Brenet. A visually quite appealing Napoleonic medal, struck upon the final success of Napoleon's forces in taking the western Gate of Alcala after two unsuccessful attempts in December 1808. The medal itself is largely original, with magenta, cobalt, and seafoam tones igniting the bronze fields in a splendid play of colors granting singular eye-appeal. While hairlines are to be noted across the surfaces for the sake of completeness, they are relatively unobtrusive, and highly regular for the series, and they do nothing to break the watery luster, the fields appearing particularly brilliant for the issue, not showing the matte-like medal finish so typically encountered.
