Bavaria. Maximilian II 2 Gulden 1854 MS64 NGC, KM828. Outranked by a single example at NGC, the supremely watery finish to the fields and sharpness of the strike produce a contrast not unlike a graphite sketch of a master when turned in hand under good light. With the only traces of tone being a light amber around the reverse devices, it seems that the only thing preventing a higher grade are to light knocks in the king's hair.
