Hannover. Wilhelm IV (William IV of England) gold 2-1/2 Taler 1837-B AU55 NGC, Hannover mint, KM152a. A somewhat scarce and historically fascinating issue that harkens to the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha's ties and claims to the Hannoverian throne, the present offering represents the final mintage of a German coinage of a British monarch. With the death William IV the same year, the British throne passed to Victoria and the Hannoverian throne to her uncle, as the law of the time prohibited the ruler of Hannover being a queen. Luminous and very well struck, the presence of light signs of handling on the present issue should be noted for the sake of completeness, but does little to dilute the coin's strong allure. AGW 0.0965 oz.
