Hesse-Darmstadt. Ludwig II Gulden 1839 MS66 NGC, KM309. A splendid summery-hued Gem that exceeds its technical competition in the NGC census by a full 3 grade points. While the fields lack the deep mirrored finish, the frostiness of the devices, particularly the reverse wreath, seem appropriately suited for a proof issue, a fact which the bright iridescence in the peripheries accentuates. A few subtle adjustment marks appear on the king's face and around the denomination but do little if anything to dilute the coin's overall stunning appearance.
