Württemberg. Karl Proof Taler 1871 PR66 PCGS, KM620. With only one example ranking higher in the PCGS census, it seems fitting to say that this taler is indeed an appropriate medium through which to commemorate the conclusion of the Franco-Prussian War. The obverse fields maintain a slate gray appearance, with dark accents chiseling the legends, and a pleasing russet iridescence settling around the protected areas of the king's bust. On the reverse, the fields take on a much more plum-tinged gunmetal hue with honey highlights around the peripheries and an unevenly light area of tone likely the result of being long stored in an old coin cabinet, resting on top of something else. Both faces showcase their luminous elements as rotated in hand, bringing the coin's beauty full circle.
