Weimar Republic nickel Pattern 2 Mark 1926-D MS62 NGC, Munich mint, Schaaf-320/G2var. An extremely rare issue that is almost never encountered in its more usual pattern status, the present example carries the additional word Probe (literally "trial") below the denomination on the reverse. The exact reason for this particular piece carry the designation while almost none of the other Goetz patterns of this series do is difficult to answer, though it certainly adds an additional level of curiosity. On an aesthetic note, the lightly peachy mottling to the fields produces a pleasing contrast around the devices that makes the issue feel all the more crisp and refined.
