"Bengal Presidency" Jeweler's Imitation gold Mohur Year 19 [Frozen Date, c. 1800-1900s] UNC - surface hairlines, slightly bent, 7.24g, 27mm, cf. KM-XM18 (for similar imitation), cf. KM114 (for prototype). A somewhat crudely produced imitation that nonetheless remains crisp, these jeweler's imitations were initially produced in response to a high demand from local Indian women to have affordable examples of the "Murshidabad Mohurs" for personal adornment. On the present example, a clear degradation of the script it clearly detectable, while the frozen accession year of AH 1202 (a holdover from the coins of Shah Alam II) has been dropped altogether). A quite collectable piece. AGW 0.2071 oz.
