British India. George V gold Sovereign 1918-I MS65 NGC, Mumbai mint, KMA525, S-3998. A rare and highly sought-after one-year type desirable for all sovereign collectors, especially in a condition such as this, the present offering exhibits extremely luminous, satiny fields with only the most minuscule of contact marks. The Mansfield Commission of 1868 allowed for the admission of British and Australian sovereigns as payment for sums due. The fifth branch of the Royal Mint was established in a section of the Mumbai (Bombay) Mint as of December 21, 1917. This was a war-time measure, its purpose being to strike into sovereigns the gold blanks supplied by the Mumbai and other Indian mints. AGW 0.2355 oz.
