Papal States. Pius IX 5 Baiocchi Anno IV (1849)-R MS64 Brown NGC, Rome mint, KM1346. A rather scarce type to encounter in mintstate, this hefty copper issue presents a look not unlike brown porcelain--maintaining a lustrous glimmer and certain degree of wateriness to its milk chocolate surfaces. Furthermore, a coppery red hue, so desirous on copper coinage, has come to highlight the devices, heightening the overall eye-appeal and creating a pleasant level of contrast to an otherwise evenly-colored piece.
