French Protectorate. Mohammed V silvered Specimen 5 Francs AH 1365 (1945/6)-(a) SP66+ PCGS, Paris mint, KM-Y43var (unlisted as silvered), Lec-244var (same). An absolutely stunning example, both in terms of its overall eye-appeal and extremely high technical grade, in addition to being the only silvered example we have encountered. Though both SCWC and Lecompte record essais struck in silver--which are extremely rare--neither made mention of a silvered version of the standard aluminum-bronze issue. The silvering on the present piece certainly appears to have been applied at the mint, rather than later by a private individual.
