Spain
Philip III(?) gold Cob 2 Escudos ND (c. early 1600s) VF35 NGC, Seville mint(?), cf. KM48.3, cf. Fr-189. A strong example for the grade, with a moderate degree of luster owing to the clean nature of the wear over the surfaces. Most shield detail is visible, as is all but one section of one of the cross's arms. Although NGC has attributed this piece as Colombian, the style of the lilies and arches on the reverse is more consistent with types of Spanish origin, Seville being a likely candidate as the mint of origin.
