Republic Mint Error 12-1/2 Centimos 1896 MS62 NGC, KM-Y28. Struck 50% off-center. An exceedingly high grade for a non-error striking of this coin, with a similarly graded standard issue hammering for $800 in our January 2017 Auction #3053 (Lot 38568), it is most difficult to gauge the level of excitement possibly from this intriguing error issue. Some slight curved impressions on the blank portion of the flan indicate some level of double-striking, perhaps the reason for such an exacting strike.
