Toronto, ON- Sovereign Bank of Canada $20 May 1, 1906 Ch. # 685-10-12FPa; 685-10-12BPa Unadopted Approval Proofs. A pair of Proofs of both sides mounted on cardstock of this unadopted design featuring a portrait of General Manager D.M. Stewart of the Sovereign Bank. Both Proofs have been signed off on and dated by ABNCo Ottawa personnel. The eventual adopted design was of King Edward VII. The Face Proof in this lot grades PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 with minor rust and the Back Proof grades PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ. The Sovereign Bank is a rare bank that operated only from 1901-08. We have offered previously a mere two notes on this institution. One example was an issued note and the other was a pair of Proofs similar in design to the current offering, but in the much lower grades of Good and VG that realized almost $900 in September 2011. The pair we are offering tonight are both in Uncirculated grades and should bring considerably more. Also, this lot includes a cabinet card of Mr. Stewart that was used by the ABNCo Ottawa in engraving his portrait. The full dimensions of the card is approximately 4.25 by 6.5 inches. It is encapsulated by PMG, but not graded. Overall, a great pair of Proofs and a collateral item for the collector. From the Feeling Good Collection HID08701242017
