Australia Commonwealth of Australia 10 Shillings ND (1913) Pick 1Ac R1a. Serial Number 86 Presentation Note. A historically important note from the first series of Australian currency issued by the Commonwealth Bank. The first notes of this design (M000001 to M000100) were reserved for high ranking officials. Notes 1, 2 and 3 were given to Governor-General Lord Denman and his daughter and son, with notes 4 and 5 purchased by Prime Minister Andrew Fisher. The remaining amount was open to bidding by parliamentarians and high-ranking officials. Each note was awarded with a letter (like the one included in this lot), pinned to the note, which means all examples of this presentation run have pinholes. There are estimated to be only 30 to 35 of these presentation notes remaining, and we are pleased to present two examples tonight. This example with the low serial M000086 includes the original signed letter from the Secretary to the Treasury George T. Allen, and is addressed to G.H. Wise, Esq. While the PMG population reports lists two examples in this grade, with none finer, they are both offered in this auction. The other is the Serial Number 89 presentation note, also presented by Allen. PMG About Uncirculated 53. From the Drs. Joanne and Edward Dauer Collection of Australian Banknotes HID08701242017

Estimate: 70000-90000 USD
