South Africa Cape of Good Hope Uniform Banknote £1 2.1.1897 Pick S320b. A banknote that is similar to National Bank Notes in the United States issued around the same time. The basic design was authorized by the Cape of Good Hope government, and printed with trademark Perkins Bacon steel plates with intricate patterns. These "uniform" notes were then supplied by local private banks to print and issue, after a similar amount of backing was deposited with the Cape of Good Hope government. The large African Banking Corporation is known to have used these, with the name of the bank printed in the white area above the promise to pay clause. A very appealing design.
