Germany Concentration Camp Oranienburg 50 Pfennig ND (1933-36) Feller GE-103a Campbell 4038. A PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ example of this famous design where designer Lippert was able to portray the stark reality of camp life by having two armed guards and barbed wire, while a German eagle atop a swastika oversees all activity. Lippert was able to change "konzentrationslagers" to "konzentrationslayers" on the face by slowly scratching away the "g" into a "y" on the printing block. The note in this lot is of the "konzentrationslagers" variety. However, the top part of the "g" is barely enclosed on the specimen in this lot. This typographical tampering was confirmed by Mr. Lippert to German numismatists in 1981 while residing in West Germany. This was shortly before his death on November, 13, 1981.
