Germany Concentration Camp Oranienburg 1 Mark ND (1933-36) Feller GE-104 Campbell 4039. A prisoner plants a tree with a stylized swastika in the background on the highest denomination of this issue. This example has a little corner handling at lower left and grades PMG Choice About Unc 58 EPQ. Designer of this issue, Horst-Willi Lippert, was arrested on June 27, 1933 along with other citizens from his hometown of Rathenow. He was released from custody in mid-July following his wife's intervention. This shows that this concentration camp issue took very little time from the planning stage to the finished product. Lippert had produced at least 18 issues of Notgeld in the early 1920s and this experience proved invaluable in getting the camp money produced. Lippert was admitted to the Reich Chamber of Culture in 1936 and received commissions for historical military murals up into the war years. He also worked as an artist in post-war West Germany.
