From the Lee Rousseau Collection.
In the sale catalogue of the Houghton Collection, Cathy Lorber noted "[the} portrait is a work of exceptional artistry, depicting a keen and thoughtful visage much in contrast to the vacant or fatuous images that normally adorn the coinage of this king. It seems logical that the commissioning of an important artist should have occurred at the outset of the reign, not in the midst of a turbulent civil war.
