Antoninus Pius, AD 138-161. Gold Aureus (7.04g). Mint of Rome, AD 147. Laureate head of Pius right. Reverse: TR POT COS III. Roma seated left, holding palladium in right hand and spear in left; shield set on ground at side. RIC 147c; BMCRE 557; Calicó 1655. Boldly struck on a full round flan with full legends. Intensely lustrous and nearly pristine. We note a tiny area of flatness at the end of the laurel above the ear, only seen when viewed with a light source. Also, some very faint graffito in right reverse fields, barley worth noting. NGC graded Choice AU; Strike: 5/5, Surface: 3/5. Estimate Value $4,000 - 5,000
