Bronze Seal Matrix. England, XIV Century AD. Monastic seal of St Catherine praying, wheel behind. 42mm long. Found in Kent. Some wear and edge chip. Makes a decent impression. Catherine was summoned by Roman Emperor Maximian to a debate on the legitimacy of Christianity - which she won her arguments converted many of the pagan participants. Maximian tried to get her to abandon her faith with torture, including the wheel (her symbol), but she endured and was ultimately beheaded.
