Charles I (1625-49), silver obsidional Pontefract Shilling, 1648, struck on a lozenge shape flan, crown above C.R at centre, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, DVM: SPIRO. SPERO, rev. Pontefract Castle gateway, date below, OBS vertically upward to left, XII denomination to right dividing P and C reading vertically downward, flag on central tower above, weight 5.19g (Brooker 1232; N.2647; S.3149). Toned, has had a small hole repaired at top, struck a little weakly with part of design off flan, otherwise very fine.
