ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. Yazid I ibn Mu'awiya, AH 60-64 / AD 680-683. Fals (Bronze, 22 mm, 3.98 g, 8 h), Arab-Byzantine type, 'Pseudo-Damascus' mint. Imperial figure standing facing, holding long cross in his right hand and globus cruciger in his left; in left field, short palm branch; in right field Є. Rev. Large M in center; above, cross; below, officina mark of inverted crescent with short line beneath; around, blundered Arabic legend reading darb dimashq ja'iz ('current issue [of] Dimashq'). Cf. Goodwin&Gyselen p. 82, fig. 19, type 200 for reverse. Struck on a broad flan. Very fine.
