Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet; on cheek, countermark: bow in bowcase with ΣAP to left; all within round incuse. Rev. This interesting countermark was applied by the city of Sardes. It is part of a series of similar countermarks used by a number of cities to revaluate old Attic weight coins to the cistophoric coinage introduced in circa 180 BC.
