Maximinus I, 235-238. Dupondius (Orichalcum, 25 mm, 11.07 g, 7 h), Rome, 235-236. IMP MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Maximinus I to right, seen from behind. Rev. VICTORIA GERMANICA / S - C Victory standing front, head to left, holding wreath in her right hand and palm with her left; at her feet, bound captive seated left, head to right. BMC 117. Cohen 111 var. (differing obverse legend). RIC -, cf. 72 corr. (citing a coin in Budapest, but BMC points out that this is in fact an as). Rare. Somewhat rough and with a flan crack, otherwise, very fine.

This is a hybrid issue, combining an old obverse die lacking the epithet GERM with a new reverse type introduced after Maximinus' Germanic victories.
